About
A promise to myself: I will not wear a night guard every night, for the rest of my life.
Our Mission
I’m tired of dentists telling me I need to spend hundreds on custom night guards. I’m tired of waking up and having to rinse my night guard. I’m tired of worrying I’ll chip my teeth if I forget to bring my night guard on vacation.
I started this site to document my journey to stop grinding my teeth, so I can share what’s working and what’s not. I’m an entrepreneur and a scientist, if I can’t crack this case, who can?
If you’re someone who also wants to stop having to wear a night guard, sign up to our email list so we can share the results of our experiments with you as we learn.
What We Cover
GrindMyTeeth digs into every angle of bruxism — the medical term for teeth grinding and jaw clenching. We research and write about:
- Root causes — stress, sleep disorders, medications like Adderall and SSRIs, airway issues, and the surprisingly complex neuroscience behind why your jaw won’t stop clenching
- Treatments that go beyond night guards — from physical therapy and biofeedback to magnesium, sleep hygiene, and lifestyle changes that target the source of grinding
- Night guard comparisons — honest reviews of over-the-counter vs. custom-fitted guards, what they actually cost, and whether they’re worth it
- TMJ and jaw pain — understanding the connection between bruxism and temporomandibular joint disorders, and what actually helps
- The latest research — we read the studies so you don’t have to, and break them down into plain English
Our History
My journey into teeth grinding started the way it does for everyone: your dentist asking you if you grind your teeth at night. “I don’t think so.” “Well it looks like you do, we’re going to need to make you a night guard.”
Shortly thereafter, I asked if there was a way to stop the cause of the grinding, not just block it. “No, it’s psychological, you can’t stop it.” And that, dear reader, is why I’m here today. I call bullshit on that.
Since then, I’ve spent hundreds of hours reading clinical research, experimenting with different approaches, and talking to other grinders who refuse to accept “just wear a guard” as the final answer. This site is the result — a growing collection of everything I’ve learned, written for people who want real answers instead of a plastic tray.
